on the second day of awards show season, the NBR gave to us...

A really, really awesome list of movies. The National Board of Review announced its awards yesterday. It's definitely early for predictions to mean much, but the last two NBR best film winners were Slumdog Millionaire and No Country For Old Men (read: the last two Best Picture winners at the Oscars). So pretty good news for Up in the Air.

Some things I love about this list:
  • It just makes me want to see Up in the Air more
  • I've already seen 7 of its 10 best movies (usually lists at this time of year just make me feel really behind in my movie watching [not that I'm not])
  • The Cove winning best documentary (not sure if you guys know this, but we LOVE that movie. Might have mentioned it once or twice before)
  • Carey Mulligan winning Best Actress for An Education (seriously, she's phenomenal)
  • Harrelson!
  • My already overwhelming desire to see Invictus (inspirational sports movie that's also supposed to be good??? be still my heart) is only increased with the award for Eastwood for direction and Freeman for acting.
Sure, there are some omissions (I haven't seen Precious, but from everything I hear it/Mo'Nique should be on here [also, here's an interesting article talking about that very issue]. Even stranger since Mo'Nique lost to dark horse Anna Kendrick for Up in the Air. Yup, that's the same Anna Kendrick known mostly only to 14 year old girls for her role as Jessica in the Twilight movies. Maybe we can't escape them). But I feel pretty great about this list.
