i've spent a week trying to craft this review. i got nothin'. so here's the deal: precious is an incredibly honorable, yet incredibly flawed film with a performance by mo'nique that will STOP YOUR HEART. she's a revelation and has all but locked down the oscar for best supporting actress. (sorry, julienne moore, it is, once again, not your year.)
yes, gabourey sidibe is good. really good. yes, mariah carey is good, too. and lenny kravitz: not bad. lee daniel's direction is sloppy and unfocused, but i can think of no one better to tackle sapphire's material. want to really blow your hair back? read the book.
