(that's right, he just spoke Na'vi. it was not a joke. you can just jump ahead to 1:00 if you don't want to listen to him talk more than you have to).
In other news, I'm very concerned about the health of James Cameron's 5th wife Suzy Amis.
Personally, Avatar winning Best Picture didn't bother me nearly as much as Cameron winning. I mean, it shouldn't have, but i did love the movie. But Cameron beating Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker is just wrong. I don't think it necessarily predicts an Oscar win, though, if you look at the different audiences. The Golden Globes are selected by about 100 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, whereas the Academy is several thousands. Also, consider the business that Avatar did overseas compared to any of the other films, especially The Hurt Locker. Thus, I am keeping the faith.
Other moments of note:
- Speeches of the night go to Mo'nique and Robert Downey Jr. My feelings for RDJ are clear, but I never thought I could find Mo'Nique so damn charming.
- Anything Ricky Gervais said, most notably: "I like a drink as much as the next guy ... Unless the next guy is Mel Gibson." Only complaint is how little he was actually on stage.
- I still maintain that Colin Firth gave the best male performance of the year. But I do love Jeff Bridges, and think it's wrong that he's never won an Oscar, so i guess I should just resign myself to the fact that he's going to win.
- Sandra Bullock is quite the charmer.
- Best moment of the red carpet:
- I actually really loved Drew Barrymore's speech as well.
- Critics Choice Awards: Christoph Waltz's acceptance speech is all about people's "choices" that got him there. His Golden Globes speech is all about his world, globe, and Tarantino's gravitational pull. Now taking bets on what combo of "oscar" or "academy" will show up on March 7th. Because, duh, he's gonna win.
- Red carpet boob award goes to Christina Hendricks. Sorry Mariah Carey.
- Loooooooove that Glee won. Absolutely did not love that Jane Lynch didn't.
- I did enjoy Mike Tyson's appearance with the Hangover cast.
- And, finally, your "oh jesus" fashion moment of the night:
