gimme a break already!

ok. seriously. listen up twilight, you and i need to have a little chat. i know you're all busy breaking box office records and deadening the minds of our youth but holy CRAP can you just do a girl a favor and just GO THE HELL AWAY?

i mean first you (and your throngs of 40 something wearing tshirts with that one loser vampire and making plans about how they're going to burst into applause as soon as he comes on screen...i mean, APPLAUSE? for what? sucking?) rob me of delicious popcorn on saturday (like it's some kind of crime to expect to purchase my delicious buttery goodness in less than 30 minutes and see something other than a movie about underage vampires acting vacant while they dry hump). and now THIS?

i mean, yes, you've been attacking us with cover after cover of your idiot stars on my girl porn for weeks (weeks!) but now you're spreading your crapocity to rolling stone? who the hell is this guy? it's just too much. go away, please. for all of us.

UPDATE FROM JESSICA: Yes, I read all the Twilight books in a weekend (and loved them, in a bad writing, guilty pleasure way. but still). Yes, I'm charmed by Robert Pattinson (although only in real life, i can't stand him in the movies. that, yes, I've seen). And, yes, I'm sick as hell of all the insanity surrounding the movies and the stars. but I also am the one voice of 3pies4rolls dissention in not completely hating it all (and feeling kind of bad for the people involved). But mostly, I feel like this. Just thought i should put in my two cents :)

lady gaga: an art skool girl out for my heart.

i'm sorry, but i love this. like, love.

condolences, nancy & jess.

well, wonders never cease.

hey jess, remember when you were obsessed with old man kilmer? (yeah, i just outted you on the blog). i'm wondering...what do you think of his new sexy look and his new bestie?

as if you cared: it's kim's review of "an education"!

so... there's a rumor that i had zero desire to see an education after i saw the trailer for the first time. it just looked so, you know, yawnsville.

yawnsville? not so much.

the reason to see this movie is carey mulligan. she is EXTRAORDINARY! for my money, it's the best lead female performance so far this year. (she's sure to snag an oscar nomination for best actress.)

great acting, compelling story, AMAZING clothes!

honorable mention.

as if you cared: it's kim's review of "the men who stare at goats"!

entertainment weekly gave goats an F. well, it's not that bad, but it's not that good, either.

there are a few memorable quotes - the best of which involves anne frank - and jeff bridges delivers, but overall, goats disappoints.

skip it.

No special effects

Yes, Jason Segel, we are charmed by your onscreen persona

apparently he made a surprise appearance during the Swell Season's November 18th concert in Los Angeles. and, while I haven't tried it, I'm told that it's a real number. Call it if you need him.

Oscar news!

We are only 108 days away from my favorite holiday of the year, Oscar Day! And the news keeps coming. We just had our hosts announced, and yesterday we got the show's director, as well as the documentary short list. We do love us some documentaries around here, so this was a pretty big deal. Notably absent from the list were Michael Moore's Capitalism: A Love Story, and Anvil: The Story of Anvil. And I gotta say, pretty okay with both of them not being there.

3pies4rolls consensus: If The Cove doesn't walk away with this award then there is something not right in this world because HOLY CRAP is that an amazing movie.

As far as the director of the show goes, I gotta say I'm not all that impressed with the resume. MTV Video Music Awards and Victoria's Secret Fashion Show? We'll see how that goes.

but for realz, guys, if you haven't already, see this movie any way possible!

jason kirkham + broken kingdom = our ticket to the oscars

this is jason kirkham.

aside from being the love of my life and a good friend of 3pies4rolls, jay is the producer of the upcoming film, broken kingdom, currently filming in bogota, colombia. broken kingdom is directed by newcomer daniel gillies, executive produced by ryan gosling and has a magnolia-esque narrative that makes its way from bogota to the hollywood hills. personally, i can't wait to see this film!

so why am i telling you all of this? because i want you to DO SOMETHING, of course! and, let's face it, jay is clearly our only ticket to the oscars!!! ha!

anyways, please do the following:

a) go to facebook and become a fan!

b) check out the website

c) follow them on twitter: @brokethekingdom

yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw for friends who make movies!!

get a job, people magazine!

listen, i'm no plumber, but how difficult was this choice?

but at least this didn't happen again:

that was clearly the dumbest idea ever.

cracked.com + photoshop = love

For those who don't know, Cracked.com has a weekly photoshop contest, generally filled with a mix of very clever and very nerdy people with varying levels of photoshop skillz (it is cracked.com, so of course there's the usual boob/dick jokes as well).

This week's contest? If Blockbuster Films Had Been Made for $50

my personal favorite (the winner) is below, although #16 is pretty fantastic, too

well, phew!

this just in: science says the world will NOT end in 2012. yay for living!

meanwhile roland emmerich continues to STRONGLY disagree. and who am i to argue with the man who brought us ID4?

well this seems like a crapshoot...

right? i mean, i soooo badly want it to be good but i just kinda feel like it may be one of those movies that seems to have everything crackin but when it all comes together it ends up just kinda being meh. agree? yes? no?

if you've got that charmer, felicia day, in your PSA.

If you don't know felicia day, you've clearly ignored all of our advice, but I'll try again... go watch dr. horrible's sing-a-long blog right now!

it's official, they've run out of ideas for movies

We've had movies based on theme park rides (the good and the bad), video games, children's cartoons, and popular social networking sites. So I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Sony's adapting Risk for the big screen. But really guys? Don't get me wrong, I'm a girl who loves Risk. This may or may not have been my halloween costume last year:

(sadly, in this picture you can't appreciate the world map shower curtain covered in Risk pieces I am wearing)

but where you gonna go with this one? what's your plot? world domination? Who am I supposed to root for???

Just make sure you remember that you can't hold Asia.

the comic douchebaggery that keeps on giving...

Thanks, Kanye.

holy shit

They've announced the Oscar hosts. That's right, I said hosts. It's gonna be Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. Which is just in no way as awesome as Ricky Gervais.

I'm a big fan of both of them, but I just don't like this. Thoughts?

UPDATE:
Okay, so upon thinking about this more and consulting with my fellow 3pies4rolls associates, the idea is beginning to grow on me. It's certainly waaaay better than some of the ideas that had been thrown around. So I'm putting my faith in Baldwin, and choosing to think positively :)

awful or awesome, you be the judge!

Bruckheimer? Movie based on a video game? Sounds like a bad idea to me...

wait a second...
Gyllenhaal??? Kingsley??? Molina?? I'm so confused!
(not implying that those men can't make bad decisions, they have mortgages, too. But it makes me question things...)

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time in HD

Trailer Park | MySpace Video

that lizard can talk!

we never claimed to be a family blog ...

... so beware of the following:

is it (blow) just us, or (job) ...?

The only version of Lady Gaga's Poker Face that I like

My sister accurately expressed my feelings about Lady Gaga. But I do enjoy Christopher Walken's version.

UPDATE: I was wrong. There is another version that I enjoy.

thanks to Trina for all of the above links :)

as if you cared: it's kim's review of "goodbye solo"!

this is a fantastic little film with a crazy-good performance by souleymane sy savane (nominated for a gothic independent film award for breakthrough actor). a must-see.

top ten.

THE AWARDS SEASON IS HERE!!!

OSCAR DAY is 126 days away, but with last week's announcement of the 2009 gotham independent film awards, the awards season countdown starts ... NOW!!!

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW!!!!!
