district 9 is a film about oppression, hatred, corporate crime and fear. but most importantly, district 9 is about the other; and the extraordinary lengths we, as human beings, will undertake to ensure that the other stays in their place and stays away from us.
district 9 is an allegorical achievement rarely seen on the big screen. yes, it evokes israel/palestine, african apartheid, jim crow, even katrina ... but it does so with such emotionality that the film is able to stand on its own, outside of these present and no-so-past real-life "district 9s".
sharlto copley is ridiculous (-ly good) as van de merwe, and the makeup and visual effects are incredible.
do the right thing, and see this film. top ten.
